2017 Summer Food Service Program Recap

Posted on Aug 29, 2017

On June 12, 2017 Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (Fresno EOC) Food Services launched their Summer Food Service Program throughout Fresno County. Last year we had 60 summer feeding sites and this year we expanded to 105 sites!

According to California Food Policy Advocates 2016 data, 84,000 children in Fresno County live in poverty. For the first time in our history, we are able to provide meals at all of Fresno EOC’s five Women, Infant and Children (WIC) sites with Dietetic Student Volunteers from Fresno City College and California State University, Fresno.

Food Services also launched a Mobile Feeding Site to reach children on Motel Drive!

We were able reach so many children because of the help of our many partner organizations. For example, FirstFruits Marketing and local business, OK Produce, together, donated $1,000 to Fresno EOC Summer Food Service Program through the Tackle Kids Summer Nutrition program. FirstFruits Marketing is a collaborative apple marketing company owned by Ralph and Cheryl Broetje, growers who share a commitment to producing high quality fruit while balancing the demands of purpose, people, planet and profit so that a portion of profits can be donated to non-profit missions supporting the underserved, including Fresno EOC, whose mission is to support the underserved.
