The Marjaree Mason Center recently hosted its annual Top Ten Professional Women and Leading Business Awards, bringing together more than a thousand people at the Fresno Convention Center. The event celebrated ten extraordinary women and one outstanding business for their contributions to the community.

Honorees were nominated by their peers and chosen by a group of community judges who review dozens of candidates, focusing on their achievements, leadership, and dedication to making a positive difference.

Among the honorees was Fresno EOC CEO Emilia Reyes, standing proudly alongside the nine other remarkable women. This recognition, like her leadership, did not happen by chance—it was earned through years of dedication and resilience.

Reyes has been the CEO of Fresno EOC since just before the pandemic, stepping into the role at one of the most challenging times for Fresno County.

Her journey is a testament to perseverance and purpose. Born and raised in the rural town of Mendota to immigrant parents, Emilia grew up in the same community she would one day dedicate her life to helping. Her deep connection to Fresno EOC started early; she was a Head Start student and later participated in workforce programs and community service initiatives.

Driven to achieve more, Reyes pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics & Business Management from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Before becoming Fresno EOC’s CEO, she served as the Executive Director of First 5 Fresno County, where she played a pivotal role in creating the Lighthouse for Children, a vital resource for families in the Valley.

Her personal experiences fuel her passion for service. As a sister of a murder victim, a single mother to a child with special needs, and a Latina leader, Reyes carries the strength of her life’s challenges into her work.

“Being honored as one of the top ten women in Fresno by the Marjaree Mason Center means the world to me,” Reyes shared. “This community is at the heart of everything I do, and standing among such talented and passionate women is truly humbling.”

Emilia Reyes’ story shows her strong connection to her roots and dedicated leadership, making this recognition as one of Fresno’s top women a meaningful honor. It reflects not only the award itself, but also the lasting impact she has made in the community, joining a long line of women who have shaped Fresno County for decades.
