Fresno EOC Energy Services Program received special recognition for Weatherization Day, with Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig presenting a proclamation from the Fresno County Board of Supervisors during the annual event.

Weatherization is the process of adding energy-saving measures—such as weather-stripping doors, sealing windows, insulating walls, upgrading to LED lighting, and repairing or replacing heating and cooling systems—to make homes safer, more comfortable, and energy-efficient for low-income households, especially those with elderly residents, people with disabilities, and families with young children.

This proclamation honors the essential work of Fresno EOC Energy Services in helping families save energy and lower utility costs through weatherization.

A proclamation is a formal recognition by local government, awarded to organizations or initiatives that make a significant impact in the community. Receiving a proclamation means that the County Board of Supervisors acknowledges the program’s dedication to improving energy efficiency and supporting families in need.

Sherry Neil, Fresno EOC’s Programs Officer for Energy Services, kicked off this year’s carnival themed ceremony by highlighting the role of the Weatherization Assistance Program in supporting families nationwide. “On Weatherization Day, over 500 Community Action Agencies, including Fresno EOC, work to lower energy costs for families by making their homes more energy-efficient,” Neil explained.

“Not just on Weatherization Day, but everyday we want to educate families on ways they can save on energy bills and keep their homes weather ready.”

The program helps families save on utility bills, provides health and safety benefits, and creates American jobs. Fresno EOC CEO Emilia Reyes also spoke, sharing the realities that many local families face. “In Fresno County, one in five people live in poverty, which often means choosing between paying their electric bill or buying groceries,” said Reyes. “It shouldn’t be this way.”

Reyes emphasized how much of an impact the program can make: “Weatherization saves families an average of $283 a year on energy costs. These simple changes go a long way. We’re encouraging everyone to find out what they qualify for—small upgrades can make a big difference.”

The Weatherization Day event aimed to connect local families with energy-saving resources and enrollment opportunities. Guests enjoyed a day of food, music, games, and giveaways, making it a community event that offered both information and support.
