Rep. John Lewis was instrumental in the fight to bring equity and opportunities to all Americans. As one of the original Civil Rights Freedom Fighters and leaders of the March on Washington of 1963, Lewis pushed for voting rights and anti-poverty programs.

The work of Lewis and other civil rights advocates led to the passing of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, initiating nearly 900 Community Action Agencies, including Fresno EOC.

Since 1965, Fresno EOC has spent over five decades investing in people, helping them become self-sufficient. Without the Civil Rights Movement and leadership of Rep. John Lewis, the mission and drive of Community Action Agencies would not be possible.
