Once again…

Once again, our nation is rocked by the reality of police brutality, leading to the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee – the same city where Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated in 1968. The images and video are horrific, appalling, and unconscionable. This video demonstrates a blatant disregard for life, humanity and continues to raise serious questions about community trust in the police. The inhumane treatment of people should not be a defining characteristic of our justice system, nor should police violence be normalized or go unchecked. Instead, we must continue challenging and dismantling systems that enable police brutality and oppression. To create a society where everyone is safe and respected.

As an organization built on the Civil Rights Movement, Fresno EOC believes in the dignity and right to life of each and every human being. We stand in solidarity with the Nichols family, the community, and all families who have lost loved ones to police brutality.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
