Fresno County: 2015 data reports that Central California has been successful in the support for breastfeeding. State Senate Bill 1193 was enacted into law on April 1, 2013. SB 1193 provided a landmark bill for Human Trafficking awareness and education in the state of California. The bill requires businesses to maintain postings providing education on what human trafficking is and provide the national human trafficking resource center hotline number for victims and community members to reach out for assistance when suspecting cases of human trafficking. August’s Foster Grandparent Program In-Service Training at the West Fresno Family Resource Center was particularly exciting. We had more than 50 Foster Grandparent volunteers and approximately 20 seniors from the West Fresno Family Resource Center attend the in-service and informational session regarding our Foster Grandparent Program. Participants heard a presentation from Dr. Nicholette King Rabetsimba, pharmacist and professor. Dr. King Rabetsimba answered questions regarding hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes and a host of other medical concerns

The Breastfeeding Task Force is working to increase breastfeeding awareness so we are pleased to have had the Fresno County Board of supervisors proclaim August Breastfeeding Awareness Month in Fresno County. Thank-you to all the Babies First Breastfeeding Task Force members and their families that participated in this Tuesday, July 12th presentation.

Fresno County Office of Emergency Services asked Fresno EOC’s Local Conservation Corps for assistance in installing a water tank for a Fresno County family. Two LCC corpsmembers and their manager installed the tank to get running water to this family’s home for the first time since February.
