On Saturday, August 26, 2023, the Fresno EOC Local Conservation Corps collaborated with the West Fresno Family Resource Center and Fresno EOC AFLP programs to present the upgraded Proving Our Parenting Skills (POPS) 2.0 Conference, designed for fathers and partners alike.

The POPS program, generously supported by Fresno County’s Peri-Natal Equity Program, specifically concentrates on assisting fathers and partners of African American mothers. Additionally, the Babies First funding initiative strongly encourages partners of mothers enrolled in Babies First services to actively engage in the program.

Conference attendees were treated to an enlightening plenary session led by a panel of fathers who are integral members of the LCC/POPS staff. This session explored how fathers express and handle emotions from their distinct viewpoint. The event also featured a number of breakout sessions, each facilitated by program partners.

Notably, the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) organization delivered a session focusing on “Nurturing Mom and Embracing Breastfeeding: A Father’s Supportive Role.” M & T Credit Services provided invaluable insights into the realm of credit and its significance. Euphoria 1821 Salon & Spa, in conjunction with Nancy Swanson from Fresno Unified, spearheaded a vital workshop imparting fathers with essential skills for braiding their daughters’ hair and effectively managing African-American girls’ hair.

Concluding the event, the Department of Child Support Services conducted an illuminating session guiding attendees through the intricacies of navigating the child support system.
