To celebrate the contributions of Cesar Chavez in the Central Valley, 6 corpsmembers and staff from the Fresno EOC Local Conservation Corps/YouthBuild Charter School of California attended the Cesar Chavez Day of Service at the Cesar Chavez National Monument in Keene, California.  Our service day assignment was weeding and general beautification of the Cesar Chavez Memorial Garden.

Along with our service, we also had the opportunity to visit the museum and learn more about Cesar Chavez’s role in co-finding the National Farm Worker’s Association with Dolores Huerta.  We enjoyed learning about his many accomplishments as a civil rights activist.  The highlight of our day was meeting Helen Chavez, Cesar’s widow.   The corpsmember and students were able to take a picture with her.
